Trying PCBWay's CNC machining and anodising

2026-10-04

PCBWay does more than boards these days, so I tried their CNC machining and anodising services on a one-off aluminium enclosure for a handheld device.

The front of the enclosure, anodised blue

The short version: really quite good. The machining is crisp, the pockets and screw holes all came out right, and the blue anodising is even across every face. It looks like a production part, not a one-off.

The back half, with its machined pockets

Cost was about $200 for one unit, machined and anodised. For a single custom enclosure that would otherwise mean a local machine shop quote and a separate anodising run, that's hard to argue with.

I'd use them again for small runs of enclosures without thinking too hard about it.
